The Lyceum of Abhorrance. Thursday, Jun 7 2007

Well – last night was a bit of a buzz for Kilanna.  She had her first trip into Lyceum so she has begun exploring another new place.  Always good for a spot of nice aa :)

We only had 3 groups in the raid, so we only got as far as the nasty named mob with the fear effect (Sorry complete nOOb moment don’t remember his name).  He was nasty because he has 4 or 5 heroic friends, and a very nasty fear and knockback too.  He also jumps back to 10 or 20% hit points when you get him down to 1%.  We wiped 3 times  but on the 4th attempt we got him deader than dead :)

Even though it was a relatively short adventure – I was absolutely buzzing with excitement.  The bad side of this was the fact that I was still sitting chatting to other players at Midnight my time :(   Hrmm better not let that happen again in case it starts to interfere with real life I think!

I continue to be thrilled with my decision to move Kilanna to her new guild.  It has exceeded my wildest dreams of finding new friends to enjoy new content with.  The group are a nice mix of folks with a pretty good attitude toward the game IMO.  Wanting to do new things and see new things but taking care to not go so far as to make it a chore or unfun.  It is certainly NOT a hard core raid guild by any means and that is just fine with me :)

We have a holiday weekend coming up this weekend.  It is due to be a cold, damp weekend – and I love that weather.  Curled up  under a blanket with a good book or watching a good DVD.  A nice glass of red wine in front of the fire after a nice hearty dinner :)

My poor PC has been suffering from some terrible performance the last month or so.  My husband suggests this is because it has not had a rebuild or much TLC for more than 4 years (although I did get an upgrade to my graphics card during that time).  He has kindly offered to rebuild it at some point over this weekend since we have a little extra time.  I am not looking forward to that mammoth re-patching of EQII though.

My apologies for the incoherant ramble today – perhaps something to do with a lack of sleep :(

The problem with ISP’s Tuesday, Jun 5 2007

For anyone who lives in Australia they will understand when I say aye carrumba BIGPOND.

For those of you who dont – BIGPOND is the ISP associated with the largest telephone network in the country, and have at times been questioned regarding their anti-compeditive business conduct.

Well last night while we were in the middle of the labs raid – we lost 5 players LD all at the same time. All from that same ISP. Needless to say it pretty quickly broke the raid up. Oh well we will make up for it tonight.

This gave me a chance to group for a little while with some guildies and mentor some low lvl toons in the wailing caves – which works out nicely cos Kil has never been there before. So Kil got some precious aa and my friend Kirinor dinged 20 Palladin which was great for him :)

It also gave me an opportunity to chatter a little while with Stargrace about the fun she has been having at the festival on AB so it was a nice mellow evening.

If we get enough folks we will be raiding Lyceum instead of Labs tonight we think.

Monday night madness. Monday, Jun 4 2007

Well last night was an eventfull night for Kilanna.

Confirmation came from the guild leader that the raid Main Tank had indeed moved servers.  No gripes, no personal animosity just wanted to go to a more hard core raiding guild.   While this will leave a hole in our raid force for a little while to be sure, I wish him well and hope that he settles into his new home.

It is a little over a month since I moved guilds in order to foster continued enjoyment of my favourite game, and believe everyone has the right to do the same.

On the plus side – my new friend from the guild (Verity) has a well kitted out 70 Guardian called Wazza who is now going to step into the role of raid main tank.  I am probably biased because I enjoy grouping with him, but am excited for him.

So after Wazza had respeced his AA’s, we set about getting him some quest updates for aa.  We went up into PoA with a nice little group of 5 and bummed around for around 2 hours.   We only had one wipe when we got completely mobbed in one room.  We knew it was a risk before we went in so we took it on the chin and moved on :)

Well I could barely contain my excitement or surprise when DING 69 !!!  I had been so busy concentrating on healing I hardly noticed how close I was :)

I am absolutely thrilled obviously, but can hardly believe the rate of progress.  It is just that doing instance runs or nights of quest updates has been incredibly fruitfull with xp.  So last night alone gave me just over 30% adventure level xp.  I have not done any grinding at all – it has been either quest updates for myself or helping guildmates with their own quest updates.

Tonight will be labs raid if we have enough folks log on.   Now that I wear my fabled gear, and with my main spells at Adept III or Master, I have come a long way towards preparing myself for raiding.   I dont mind if raiding is only once per week – that is fine by me actually.   I have had to negotiate with my husband to accomodate this one night.  Typically,  we get home between 6.30 and 7pm from work.  Raids start at 7.30 and I like to be up at the labs before 7.20 so I am ready and respectful of the other 23 people who have committed their time to be there.  This does not leave a lot of time for dinner and other real life stuff but that is OK if it is only one night per week.

What else can I say :)

The weekend that was. Sunday, Jun 3 2007

Well Monday morning again….   I had a very mixed weekend online this weekend.

Friday night was awesome.  I was pretty tired, but Verity encouraged me to come for a quick run around into the Vaults – an instance I had not been to before.  This had 2 very very welcome results.  Kilanna dinged 68 and now proudly wears her first fabled gear that was sitting in the bank for her.  The boost to her stats is astounding.  I am sure it will make a huge difference to her in raiding.  In addition, she also finished that last aa point to complete her INT line.

This was followed up by quite a negative experience on Sat night.  Verity and I grouped with someone from outside the guild to go into Kaladim.  I had never been there and was interested to see what it was like and all I will say is yikes.  We were seriously under resourced with only 3 of us.  Another of our guildies joined us and yet we were still underpowered.   The negative part of this experience though was a comment from the group colleague from outside the guild.  He made a comment that suggested he thought I was not doing my job.  OK well I guess I just need to harden up and develop a thicker skin – but unfortunately it actually tainted the rest of my evening.

Well I put that experience aside for what it was, and Sunday night game time was once again a lot of fun.  We ran through CoV and the tank got his class piece drop from Valdoon which he needed so that was all good.  I also had my first trip into Mistmoor Catacombs for adventuring.  More AA but it is quite a bit tougher than CoV.  We were not a full group so decided to call out after a short while because we were a bit underpowered.

Afterwards one of my closest friends in real life logged on with his Pally Kirinor.   He was lvl 16 so I thought a small trip into Blackburrow for the 2 of us might work.  And boy did it work – in a little over an hour of slayage 3 dings were had by Kirinor!!  And we also got him his first legendary piece which made the trip all worthwhile :)   The legendary chest popped from just a trash mob – and the nameds dropped vendor trash hehe – no telling sometimes.

Now it will be interesting to see what this week holds for Kilanna.  She is now almost 70% into 68 – so I am pretty sure that she will ding 69 this week.

There was some news running through the guild last night which troubled a few members.  It would appear that the raid MT may have moved to another server – specificall a PvP server.  He had discussed this with the guild leadership previously, but I understood he had decided to stay.  It appears that he may have now changed his mind.  We will all miss him but I for one wish him well if that it what he has decided to do.

What then remains is for the guild to determine new dynamics for raiding if this is the case.   Even though I am only brand new to raiding, I would venture to opine that the loss of raid MT is significant, although I do not see it as a catastrophe necessarily.    Surely we will just need to support whomever steps into the role.  We have a couple of other tanks in the guild that are pretty well geared up already even if not quite as well as the current MT.

Friday afternoon ramblings. Friday, Jun 1 2007

So here I sit having a late lunch on a Friday afternoon just daydreaming about what this weekend will hold.

My husband and I went into Sydney last night for dinner with my Mother.  She was visiting for business and it was lovely to catch up with her as always.  I am lucky that I am part of a close knit family, and I never get tired of the beauty of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera house.    This means that there were no EQ tales to tell from last night.  I did log on to check my vendor and had a quick chat with friends, but no real adventuring.

Kil is sitting on around 50% toward lvl 68 if my memory serves me correctly, and has less than half a level to get her next aa point which will finish her INT aa line and give her the increased casting speed which will be very cool.

If there are some willing participants, I might try and arrange a quick trip into Kaladim and/or Mistmoor Catacombs tonight.  The discovery aa and nameds should be enough to give me that aa point.  If we go to MMC there may even be some reasonable enough xp to put me well enough on my way to 68 Templar.

That is my aim for this weekend – I really really want to ding 68 Templar so I can wear my pretty fabled gear that I have sitting in the bank.

Also on the cards for this weekend will likely be some time on a toon I have not mentioned before.  I have an assassin called Selara, but I also have a Shadowknight called Selarra.  She is only lvl 8 and is still sitting on the Outpost of the overlord.  What can I say – I am terrible with Alt-itis but never really planned to play her really so I didn’t ever mention her before.

I have mentioned the Drow of the Underdark campaign that my husband has been running for our little group (Pen and Paper D&D).  Well 2 of the players from that campaign have rolled new Dark Elf toons in EQII based on our Pen and Paper characters.  My character in that camplaign is a Drow Blackguard which equates pretty close with the Shadowknight, so she might get a game after all :)   We are intending to get together online at some point over this weekend.   I am absolutely looking forward to us all having a real hoot.

The group will be sensational IMO.  I will be Selarra the Shadowknight tanking the group.  I am sure my husband will bring either his bruiser or a rogue for some additional DPS.  Our friends have made a Wizard and an Inquisitor.   Doesn’t it sound way cool??
