Silly season is DEFINITELY apon us Friday, Dec 4 2009

I cant believe it is a month since I posted last time.

I guess like EVERYONE else this time of year, things have been totally crazy.   Work has been mad, lots and lots of social events, family commitments.   All absolutely fun of course – but hopefully things will quiet down soon.

As far as game time goes, the guild has definitely been winding down at the end of the year.   We have already cancelled our regular scheduled raids over the festive season (which is also our summer break), but this has not stopped some of our members from arranging some fun expeditions.

Prior to the end of our regular raids though, we had two very exciting milestones reached.

The first milestone was our first kill of Thet-em-aua.  Sadly I was at  work function and missed the raid, but logged in just in time to celebrate with those who were there.

The second, was our first kill of Aiden 🙂   It was completely amazing how straitforward it seems when someone who has beaten the encounter shows you how it is done.   We had an alliance colleague help with showing us about the blocking of the portals.   On the first pull we had hiddeous luck, and both Killy and the other MT healer were ported at the same time when we had him down to less than 10% health 😦   However, second pull and it all went like clockwork *cheers*

In the last week, we have run Thuuga, Leviathan, and VP to get Myth updates for various new guildmates and Alts.  This includes my very own Nanytank the Pallytank 🙂    While it isnt just as exciting as when Killy got her Myth, I was still a very happy camper and there were lots of smiles when she finally got her Truth of Marr.

With festive season so close, I hesitate to make any plans for what will happen over the next few weeks.   It really feels like we have run out of steam so to speak this last couple of weeks.   I think that is a combination of festive season and everyones desire for the new game content in the expansion.   Is anyone else finding this too?

Not sure what this weekend will bring – hopefully some fun and games in Norrath will be a part of it!  Even though we do still get together from time to time, I really miss hanging out with the boys and having a giggle as often as we used to.  Hopefully all will be back to normal after silly season in time to prepare for the expansion.

Happy hunting and crafting all 🙂

GO Pax GO! Thursday, Nov 5 2009

Sadly, I didnt get a chance to post yesterday – but what a completely EXCELLENT Tuesday night raiding we had.

We went to Miraguls Planar Shard hoping to get some more exquisite drops from the trash mobs and have another crack at those named.   And I am as proud as punch of what we achieved!

We put in a decent showing against the trash, and had some nice drops.  Then we set ourselves up for the named in the room to the left hand side as you come in the door (not the “Snow room”)

Armed with some new intel, we hammer pulled the named with Killys hammer.   The named broke at the door leaving us with only the trash to take care of.  Rinse and repeat until all that remained was the actual named.   We knew he had a nasty trauma AoE, and had the raid force joust it.   He beat us about a bit and our raid force was definitely a little bruised and bloody – but *cheers*  we got him down!   His chest had the BEAUTIFUL healer neck item.  Unfortunately Killy didnt win the roll for it … but I get a feeling we will be coming back here again in the not to distant future.

Then on to the room that I refer to as the “Snow room”.  To take on tuskers and his mean nasty handler :p    We followed the same line of thinking to aggro the named, he breaks in the room and so we took care of the adds out in the corridor.

Then it was time to face the mamoth and his ghostly master.   We decided to have the MT group take care of the ghost, while we set up an MA group with two tanks to deal with Tuskers mem wipe.   First couple of pulls didnt go so well – but that was OK as we got used to the tanks controlling the mem wipe.   We also took a couple of pulls to get an idea of good placement for our raid force.

And then if memory serves it was our third or maybe fourth pull – we hit our rhythm.   A couple of times Tuskers ran amok and was smacking on my favourite dark elf as well as the ghost, but we managed to keep him up for the most part :p   Now I was tired and am terrible at taking in details first time in a new place, so my recollections of what was happening are hazy and sketchy at best :p

I think what we did was “easy mode” when the ghost got to 25% Arisha clicked something and then we were able to damage the Mammoth.   While the raid force were taking the mammoth down, unfortunately the ghost was healing up a little … but no never mind.   It is what happened next which was dissapointing.   We managed to get the Mammoth down to 25% too … but something happened and Tuskers re-aggrod and killed us all.   We think that it may have been someones Autoattack ????

So – while we can say that in theory we defeated the encounter, we didnt get aa for it nor a pretty exquisite chest 😦

By this time it was too late for us to keep going.   So we wished my favourite coercer a happy birthday as raid broke up and people logged off.

While it was dissapointing not to have gotten a chest from the second named encounter, Pax Fatalis still holds it head high.   We were in a new zone, and in theory got down two new named encounters, and had a bunch of laughs while doing that – stunning effort.   Not to mention we got some pretty lewt pieces for our raid force.

What was even more gratifying to me was that there was a lot of fairplay when it came to distribution of lewt.   I saw people passing up on some very shiny pieces so that they could go to guildmates that would benefit more.  I saw people thinking twice about rolling on pieces that were more suited to other classes.  Very very gratifying indeed, and makes me proud to wear the tag of Pax Fatalis.

We always seem to have a nice quiet night on Wednesday nights, and last night was no different 🙂  I spent last night tradeskilling pieces for both guildmates and other friends from within Norrath.    I think I made  4 or 5 sets of armour, plus some weapons and jewelery and shard gear.   While I was keen to take the pally for a wee run, it is awesome to see that my crafter girls are being called apon to use their tradeskills.   I see no point in leveling all those tradeskill girls if they are not going to get used!

As I was preparing to log out, someone yelled that the headless horseman was running about, so we quickly assembled in Nek and took care of him with little trouble.   By the time we had pottered about doin that,  and I had spent time chatting to people, it was time to bid gnite to Norrath

We have a x2 raid on the schedule tonight.  Not sure if I will go – would really like to run the pally around some more if we have enough folks to get a group together.

Hope everyone is enjoying their time in Norrath too … Happy hunting and crafting.

Monday night is raid night Tuesday, Nov 3 2009

Last night was one of our regular raid nights and we headed to TotMC and PotAO to have a crack at the first few named in each zone and get ourselves some pretty lewtz.

We actually decided to have another go at Thet this week rather than switchmaster, and it was quite gratifying I think.

We got ourselves two T4 pieces for the evening if I remember correctly – nothing that my girl could roll on but good to pimp up our raidforce.

When we actually got to Thet, we tried something a little different.   We split the healers from groups 2, 3 and 4 to cover the spawn points for each of the adds.   The thinking here was to keep the people with the curse alive til they kill the adds.

I basically think our problem was that we were not achieving high enough dps to kill the adds as quickly as we needed to.   Last night was our best show yet, and I think that now it is just a matter of time before we get her down.

We also had an absolutely HIDDEOUS run with bad luck of who was picked to be cursed.  At one point we had both the MT and Killy cursed 😦   Killy got cursed at least one time each pull.   We had decided that since we did not have the luxury of an excess of healers, Killy needed to cure herself of the curse and stay with the MT.

Our only problem we had was that there was insufficient communication from the people who were cursed and which add they were going to take care of.  This meant that sometimes two people were on one add and there was an add with no one taking care of it.

I was chatting with my favourite coercer , and he thought it would be too hard to concentrate on casting and directing the people with the curse as to where to go.  I am thinking I would like to try it next week to see if it helps us.   Killy really is only a secondary healer since our shaman is so well geared.  This fight is WELL within our healing capability so I dont think it would be any threat to the survivability of the MT to try it.   I am sure I will get a chance to talk quietly with him about it before next weeks raid.

Tonight sees us heading to Miraguls.  I dont see us killing any named, but wow the trash mobs still drop some pretty stuff in there 🙂  No matter what I am sure we will  have a bit of fun killing some bad guys and having a giggle.

Happy hunting and crafting everyone!

Another of THOSE nights Tuesday, Oct 27 2009

Last night was night three of our latest venture into VP.   It should not have been so – but what an awful night we had.

We had Skygazer, Silverwing and Phara Dar to go … we should have EASILY got that done in two hours …. but NOOOOOOOOO

Skygazer was done and dusted pretty quick smart – he went to join his other Wyrm cousins that had already been dispatched.    And so it was on to Silverwing.

Well what an almighty mess that was.  Nothing more to say.   It was not much fun at all.

For the times we have done this zone, we have never found this mob to be the easiest.    But last night was just ridiculous considering we had so many mythicalled main characters playing.

It certainly did not help that the encounter appears to be bugged by all accounts.   the little wisplings were travelling in a different path to normal and pretty much chain stunning us if anyone got close.   Not to mention, when we pulled Silverwing, he started to heal himself back up to full right away.

So a little research, and we decided to pull Silverwing to a different place to usual.   Normally we pull him into the alcove to the left as you face him.   Instead, we pulled him back to the door on that same side of the room.   The alcove is normally a good place to pull him because it protects the healers from getting punted across the room with his wingbeat.

So last night the positioning was just awful for me as a healer – either I was getting hit with his AoE stun … or else I was getting slapped across the other side of the room by his wingbeat.

We did manage to get him down to like maybe 30 percent on one attempt but it was just messy messy and frustrating as heck.   We shall just have to put it down to being one of those nights and move on.

Sadly, tonight we are going to miss our regular raid.   There is to be a server down right during our normal scheduled play time.   I am really really sad about this because we still have a couple of new guildies to get their myths, but our instance will reset tomorrow night 😦   At least with the magical barriers changed, we can start a fresh instance and head strait for that wing.

Perhaps Nanytank the Pallytank might get her Leviathan kill for access and Hoshkar for her VP myth update next instance.   This would leave Thuuga and Imzok.

So with the servers down there will be NO play time for this little dorf tonight …. but until next time Happy hunting and crafting everyone!

The mighty Pax is even mightier now! Wednesday, Oct 21 2009

As I mentioned yesterday, we continued on in our return to VP last night.   The aim was to get another group of toons Mythed up.  And mythed up we got them indeed!!.

After the kaffuffle that was Monday night, our second night went MUCH more smoothly.   Granted that the mobs in the second wing are certainly less of a challenge than Nex and Druushk, but it was MUCH tidier than Monday night.

We really enjoyed the recent changes which removed the magical barriers within VP.   We did mobs out of order and even chose to avoid those we did not need which was great!  So last night Hoshkar, Xygoz, Taskmaster, Ashenclaw all went down, giving updates to a new guildmate Pally, my favourite Dark Elf (who brought on his swashy), 2 coercers, 2 conjurers, one or maybe two wardens …. and a partridge in a pear tree *giggles*

Always a good thing to have a really worthwhile trip.  I am sure that in the last two nights that is around a dozen Myth updates we managed to get.  But wait there is more! ….. we need to go back and hit Silverwing and the Phara Dar encounter for our Bruiser and Ranja!!   That will happen next Monday.  Next week we are also scheduled to hit a couple of low key non VP myth updates.  I am hoping we might be able to sneak some updates for my Pallytank too.

On maybe a couple of occasions I have mentioned how fond I am of my guildmates especially those who I refer to as “my boys” :p.    They spoil me quite a bit really … Including trying to get my Pally her VP access while I was away last weekend.  Sadly, the raid wasnt succesful, but how spoilt am I.   They even took my girl to speak to the couple of NPC’s she needed to advance the first step between Fabled and Myth lol.

I have read a few blogs recently discussing the value of guilds and what keeps people playing MMO’s.   I will say it again, but for me it is DEFINITELY my guildmates and in game friends that keep this game so much fun for me.   I am also pretty sure that some of those whom I call friends only stick around because of the relationships and networks built up in game.  I dont think it is the pure game content that keeps us interested after more than three years.

*sigh* The busy pace of the rest of real life continues on … and I have a friend visiting from out of town for a couple of days yay!.   This will mean that I wont get a chance to take my little Tankgirl for a run through a shard instance or two, but they will still be there next week I guess :p

Hope everyone is having as much fun in Norrath!    Happy hunting and crafting.

The return to VP Monday, Oct 19 2009

After being away at my high school reunion over the weekend, I have no adventures in Norrath to report.  However, I was so excited after I logged in to briefly say ello to my beloved guildmates.

First of all, I logged on to Pallytank.   My favourite dark elf had logged her in over the weekend and taken her for a run to Chamber of Destiny hoping to get her VP access.   Sadly the raid failed and she didnt get her update – but how spoilt am I to have good friends who would do that !   Not only that …. but when I flicked over to Killy she had a lovely little present waiting for her in her backpacks too.   The boys had run Shard of Love hoping for an appearance slot Tower Shield or buckler to drop.   Neither of those items dropped – but my lucky little girl now very proudly sports her gorgeous little wings.     I am truly a spoilt little dorf *giggles*

Last night then saw Pax head back to VP to get some mythicals for new guildies and ALTS.

We have not been in there for a wee while …. and there has been a some changes since we were last in the dragons lair.  This is the first time that we have been in there since the DPS Cap was removed from Nexona, and the magical barriers between the various wings were removed.   The majority of people required updates from Druushk and Nexona.   With the barriers removed, we worked as quickly as possible to get directly to those nasty wyrms.

It is interesting how some nights click, and some nights just dont.

Whilst I only died once, last night felt sooooo messy.   We struggled with DPS not assisting the MA, and in particular the first time we pulled Nexona was REALLY ugly – resulting in a wipe.   We did manage to get Druusk down first pull, but once again you could hardly say it was a well executed encounter by our intrepid adventurers.

None the less, we have half a dozen new myths within our guild now – so at the end of the day that is a big win 🙂

Tonight will see us head further in to hit Taskmaster, Xygoz (love that encounter :P), Hoshkar, Silverwing and the Phara Dar encounter for more updates.   Wish us luck!  and hope tonight is much more disciplined and better executed than last night 🙂

Until tomorrow – happy hunting and crafting to one and all.

First glance at Miraguls Tuesday, Oct 13 2009

Well last night was another scheduled raid night for our crazy adventurers, and it was decided that we would poke our heads in and have a lookie at the new raid zone in Everfrost.

Our dedicated raid leaders had checked things out and had a wee bit of an idea of what to expect … but hey there is no substitute to experience.  So we got in there and had a go.

As expected we didnt get very far, and we died a bit.   We cleared trash and didnt get any named down but that was OK.  The trash mobs in that zone sure as heck drop some nice pretties … so it was far from a wasted effort for us.

I know that I was dog tired last night, and I know that our MT was tired even before we got started (Damn that daylight savings lol)  Perhaps now we have had a couple of tries at pulling those first named, we can go away and maybe have a little more success next time we visit.

I watch the heal parser in raids.   By now I know the expected pattern of how our various healers will parse, but I find it valuable.   I know what sort of parse I am capable of, and also our MT Shaman.  By looking at the parse I can see if we have got the healing well under control, or whether it is at the limits of our capabilities.   Last night I could hardly believe it, but Killy parsed the highest heals/sec she has ever managed.   As she died, it was around 3500 heals/sec!

As I mentioned yesterday, I was looking at getting the stone tower shard accessories for my little pallytank.  Sadly, these items are NOT heirloom, so I could not have Killy make them and transfer through the shared bank /sigh.   Fortunately my guild faction is sufficiently high and there were several people who offered to help out, so now Nanytank has a few more upgrades.

I dont know what the next couple of nights in game shall bring …. but I am sure it will be fun as always!   Until next time happy hunting and crafting 🙂

The switchmaster in on my list Tuesday, Oct 13 2009

Monday night = raid night for the brave adventurers of Pax Fatalis.

In order to maximise our lewtz, we have decided to stop hitting our heads against Thet for the time being.   Our new strategy is this … we shall hit the first couple of named in TotMC, and then run across to PotAO and keep going on the switchmaster.

This is turning out to be quite a good idea, as we can get all of that done in two hours … more lewtz for our brave adventurers in one sitting 🙂

Not much to mention.   We did have a couple of wipes on the twin named in PotAO.  One time it was quite annoying since we had killed the first mob, and someone got the curse when the second mob was almost down 😦   Not to worry – the next pull we killed them good.

We had a couple of pulls at switchmaster … but really the fact that you have a good 10 minutes fighting trash before the named spawns means that you dont get much of a chance to fight him.  It would be ideal if you only had to kill the adds once, and not each time the encounter resets.  I guess you have to expect to work for your lewts when you play with the big boys!

So I guess the upshot after last night is that the switchmaster is DEFINITELY on my S*%$ list – he will go down to the mighty Pax.   You mark my words!

After raid, I had a few minutes chatting with my favourite dark elf over Pally aa and gear.   I dont think I will ever make a great tank, but I think with patience I could learn enough of the basics to make a passable tank for some nice easy instance runs.   It will just take practice and experience – just like when I was learning how to play Killy.

This morning over breakfast, I popped onto game and browsed the broker.   100pp got my girl 4 or 5 masters – which wasnt too bad really.   After talking to Arisha I was comfortable with the M2 choice I had made – so all in all my girl should have had a HUGE boost in her capability at holding aggro.   I shall have Killy make her the stone Tower shard jewelery set, and that should be a good boost to her tanking survivability 🙂

The mere thaught of me tanking fills me with dread and terror lol – but then and again I remember a time that solo healing a zone on Killy would fill me with that same fear and dread lol.   It is so exciting to think that playing an Alt character can just give you a completely fresh experience of the game.

I hope the boys dont run out of patience while I learn …. but I think we will all enjoy a bit of a switch around and chance to play some different toons.  It will be nice to just enjoy the fun – and what is the worst that can happen – we spend a little extra gold on our repair bills lol

Until next time – happy hunting and crafting everyone!!

Challenges Wednesday, Aug 5 2009

The last  couple of nights raiding has been a whole bunch of fun … if not a little frustrating for our intrepid adventurers.

Monday night saw us short of numbers for VP so we headed into WoE.   With little difficulty, we cleared through the zone up to the last couple of named … So all that was left was Aiden and the waves apon wave of ghostly books named   (Technical description I grant you, but those who have been there will know of whom I speak :p)

It was very very frustrating because my girl was pushing 3K heals /second and I could still not keep my saucy dark elf pallytank alive.     We tried pet pulling and bow pulling and body pulling and pulling into the corner closest to the door … and no matter what we did we ended up pulling the entire room (four encounters) and just could NOT keep Arisha alive.   I have heard that basically the way to do that named is to have two tanks, and basically bounce aggro between them as they die.    How have other folks done this encounter … is it possible to pull only one group of the books instead of all four encounters?

It was quite exciting though, Killy won herself another fabled piece in WoE .. this time a neck slot item.

Tuesday night then saw us head into TotMC.  I was quite excited and we did indeed get some good work in on Thet-em-aua.   She is a right nasty witch.   For some reason, last night we were struggling to manage the adds… and after about a dozen pulls we gave up on her.  The adds kept reaching the named and we went KABOOM lol.   I am thinking that communication is the key to this fight.   I think that our issue was that the folks with the curse would concentrate on the adds from down the bottom, and the add up the top would kill us … and then visa versa.  If we could somehow ensure that the folk with the curse would split up I think we would be just dandy.

It didnt help that we had bad luck on one or two of the pulls with healers being called to kill the adds.  DPS on those adds was really an issue for us.

On one pull we got Thet down to just on 40% ….  so it definitely is in us.  I remember when we had the same with the sisters in SoH and the Twins in Kor’Sha.   We are almost there, and once we have got the mobs down the first time it will be VERY satisfying 🙂

So I am hoping tonight will be a nice quiet evening in game .. maybe run an instance … maybe make up my WoE pieces

Until next time friends …. happy hunting and crafting 🙂

Variety is the spice of life Wednesday, Jul 29 2009

A lot of fun was had the last few days for me in game – and exactly as you might guess, there was a lot of variety.

Firstly, Killy and Hulk ran around Fens and continued to Kunzar Jungle for some RIME faction.   I guess this quest line is neither boring nor exciting … it was just fun hanging out and getting Killy some more aa.

In between, hooked up with the boys for some fun hitting a shard zone or two.   Part of me is a growing weary of the same old shard zones … but I guess we do indeed have new content in the GU’s that I am yet to explore.   I am unsure whether it is a good or bad thing that we have longer between expansions and game updates going forward.

I also had a bunch of fun finishing off some quests in Barren Sky and taking my dirgeling to Kylong Plains.    Look at her … she is almost all grown up!!

I started working Blood of the Brood for her Hoo’loh hat.  Together with guild leaders Necro, we managed to duo the scroll bearer.  I had forgotten just how many hit points he had!!   I am now up to the point of needing a quick nest run to continue that quest.

So with the little dirge now dinged level 70 and 91aa, I have started the quest grind that is the RoK expansion.   This will be the third time now I have done these quests, but I think that compared to the Templar and the Pally, it will be much faster on this little girl.

One thing that I remember and was ready for was how much harder the mobs hit in RoK.   In Barren Sky, con white mobs were barely scratching my little girls armour, and yet the con white and blue mobs in Kylong were really smacking her about sometimes.   One great thing though, I dont imagine it will take her very long at all to get to 72, and some new Mastercrafted gear will make all the difference to her.

I absolutely adore the dirge class.  So many handy abilities, nice dps output.   The way I look at it, different classes give you a different perspective on the game.  Killy will always be my main girl for groups and raids … but Katyya is a heck of a lot of fun for running around and exploring on my own.

Speaking of raiding …. for some reason this week the servers have been incredibly quiet.    We only managed half a raid on Monday night .. so instead of VP as scheduled, we headed into WoE.

It was fantastic fun actually.  Usually, WoE is an optional raid and Arisha comes on one of his alts to get a break from tanking.  This week though, with Arisha tanking we got further than we ever have and actually finished the evening looking at Aiden.   He stared us down, we started him down, and he splatted my poor little dwarven body all over his cave when I got too close :p  but it was good to see him at last.

Exciting of exciting, Killy even got the pattern for her first fabled shard piece too 🙂

After the fun of Monday night, we gathered last night to find that we had a little over 3 groups … so we decided to head into VP and try to get one of our guildmates his final Mythical update.  As a fury, his update was Druushk.   We had 21 people quite a few of whom had not been into the first wing of VP yet.  In addition, we were missing a few key people such as our regular MT Shaman and my favourite coercer.

That being said, I was absolutely thrilled when after 3 or 4 attempts only, Druushk went down, and shortly afterwards Norrath was still for a moment for our Fury.

We were actually short of healers for Druushk IMHO … we only had four healers in the whole raid … but we pulled out all stops and everyone did themselves proud.  Even Arisha was healing almost 500 heals/sec on the fight, with Killy pushing out almost 3000 heals/sec *flex* Proud of my girl :p

Just to jump to something totally unrelated, I was reading one of the EQ2 flames threads on the weekend since I have STILL been having trouble with my voice chat.  It appears that there seems to be a very high incidence of trouble specifically for Australian players.   The good news is that one of the developers has posted an update for us, and it appears VIVOX have written an update which should be getting sent out in a hotfix this week.  Hopefully we should all have voice working properly for raids next week!!!

I imagine that the next few days shall be quite quiet in game, and I think I would like to keep going with the dirgeling.  Maybe hook up with the boys and progress her Blood of the Brood quest and continue on with Kylong plains.  *giggles* or I could cheat and box her with my pallytank to smash through the next level or so :p

Whether or not we now have too long between updates and expansions, there is ALWAYS plenty to get up to in Norrath.

Happy hunting and crafting!
